Hyssop is an ornamental perennial of the Lamiacea family, that has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes antiquity, and has been cultivated since the 16th century.
The plant thrives in dry, rocky, chalky soils, in full sun exposure, and mediterranean climates.
The aromatic leaves and flowers of Hyssop are used to season meats and vegetables. The taste is slightly bitter, due to the presence of tannins, minty and herbaceous. The herb also contains several essential oils, as well as flavonoids.
In Herbal medicine products manufactured from Hyssop, such as syrups, tinctures and herbal supplements, are used to for Hyssops’s soothing, expectorant, and cough suppressant qualities. It is also said to stimulate digestion.
In traditional home remedies a Hyssop infusion used as a gargle for sore throats, to wash the body, or drunk to curb excessive sweat production.
Our Hyssop is grown on a small, organic family farm, located high up in the unspoiled Alpes des Haute Provence mountain plateau, in Vaucluse, the heart of Provence, France.
